One of the most thrilling activities I experienced on the East Coast was conquering the Rapids on Tully River. Having never tried White Water Rafting before, I had no idea what to expect… But the experience turned out to be incredibly enjoyable! I spent two nights in Mission Beach just to do the rafting. There’s not much in Mission Beach there unless you want to skydive (no thanks). During my stay, I opted for Jackaroo Treehouse, a hostel nestled in the jungle, about an hour’s walk away from the town. It’s important to note that Mission Beach lacks public transportation, and everything is spread out over considerable distances. When I got off the Greyhound the taxi firm organised a shared taxi for everyone going to this hostel which was useful.

My chosen rafting expedition took place on the Tully River, renowned for its Grade 4 rapids (with Grade 5 being the highest). Our group was led by an enthusiastic instructor from New Zealand named Joey, who, despite being relatively new, managed to make the entire experience a lot of fun. As we navigated the river, I had a close call where I nearly fell out of the raft, but luckily, I managed to hold on and pull myself back in. One of the most memorable moments was when we went under a powerful waterfall—a sensation unlike anything I had ever felt before.

The Tully River was stunning as you can see below! Its surrounding was amazing and it really made the experience! We were later told that there were crocodiles in the river, but apparently they don’t go near the rapids so there was nothing to worry about!

To conclude the day, we enjoyed a dinner at a local pub before making our way back to Mission Beach. The entire experience left me exhilarated and filled with a sense of accomplishment. White Water Rafting was an incredible adventure that surpassed all my expectations, and it’s definitely an activity I would recommend to anyone seeking a thrilling and unforgettable experience on the East Coast.
